Project & Idea

As our introductory project to our bachelor we were given the task by the company Ahrend to design new furniture for their catalogue that aims to encourage social interaction.

We ideated on different concepts individually but finally settled on this implementation of a modular and very durable bench that can be used in many versatile ways.

Final Product

Our Final product is a modular bench which consists of three parts. A simple friction mount ensures that even rough weather still makes it very easy and intuitive to assemble.

Additionally the modularity and rather infinite combinations truly allow individuals to come together and flexibly create their own social space.

The whole bench should be made out of recycled HDPE in order to stay lightweight and have enough strength for all of the people to sit on it.

Alternative Ideas

During the ideation phase we were meant to develop individual concepts as well. My personal idea was that of a modular chair that could be stacked and disassembled into multiple pieces.
